The St. James Annual Harvest Supper took place at Forton Village Hall on Saturday 14th October 2017. A delicious hot pot supper, followed by homemade apple pie, was enjoyed by all. Members of the congregation of St. James were joined by friends and family from a number of local villages in our part of Lancashire.
Following this, Forton locals generated their own home-spun entertainment, with everything from humorous poems that had everyone giggling, a superb female quartet, a solo violin medley, to haunting love songs from John Denver. The finale was a rousing rendition of Jerusalem, complete with waving Union Jack flags. And yes, it’s official, Elvis was in the building!
Watch out for this event happening again at the same time next year, when we can all look forward to another equally entertaining evening. Many, many thanks to the organising team, ably led by Kath Walling.
Our Christmas shoebox appeal will be launched at our 10.00am all-age service on 5th November 2017, at St. James Church, Shireshead, Forton, Lancashire.
You can bring presents to go in a shoebox on this date, or you can take away one of the pre-made boxes to fill over the next month, and return to the all-age service that will take place at the beginning of December. If you don’t feel you can fill a shoe box, please bring just one or a few items to go in a shoebox, which will be filled on your behalf.
Thank you for your support! We look forward to seeing you at the service!

In addition, the church will be open from 2pm to 5pm on the same day, for cream teas, served by our lovely congregation.
The theme of this family worship was based on the scripture according to Matthew ch16, v21-28. This passage tells of Jesus beginning to speak of his own death, and he instructs his disciples – and all of us – to follow him. We looked at the theme of our own journey through life, and how the day to day choices we make influence whether we are truly following Christ. Everyone made a little crafted map foot, to hang from their car mirror, or wherever they wish, as a reminder to keep our personal journeys on track for Jesus.
