Farewell to Geoff and Jean – 30th July 2017

Bishop Geoff’s final service took place at St. James Church, Shireshead, Forton, Lancashire, on Sunday 30th July 2017.

The church was full of both regular congregation and those who had come especially to help give Geoff and Jean a good send off. The service was both poignant and emotional, and yet a wonderful celebration of their ministry with us at St. James and in the Diocese. It ended on a high note to the tune of “You’ll never walk alone”. After the service there was a meal in the Village Hall; everyone contributed food and it was a lovely time of sharing fellowship, memories and hopes for the future.

Geoff and Jean have been a constant source of inspiration and support both in their church ministry but also in their  example of Christian living. There have been many times when we have had good cause to give thanks for their presence in our community and worship. All of us at St. James wish Geoff and Jean all the very best for a long and happy retirement together.

Bishop Geoff’s farewell service at Blackburn Cathedral – 15th July 2017

Bishop Geoff’s farewell service at Blackburn Cathedral took place on Saturday 15th July 2017 at 11.30am.

Geoff and Jean were of course the focus of the service, but a number of our congregation also travelled over to Blackburn in support and celebration of their ministry at St. James and the Diocese.

Jean commended the service, saying “it was a bit like being at your own funeral in an odd way – all the lovely accolades and stories about us, but actually being there to hear them, and of course, being around afterwards to thank people and be back on duty the following day!”

There will be an additional farewell service at St. James Church, Shireshead, Forton, Lancashire, on Sunday 30th July at 10am, followed by a Jacob’s Join in the village hall.
